The country has opportunities to increase exports through Amazon and from any similar platform, said yesterday the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo) and the Directorate General of Customs (DGA).
At the thematic breakfast « Amazon: Effective export tool for Dominican products, » AIRD president Celso Juan Marranzini considered that Dominican exports have increased in volume and value, but the electronic channel has a lot of potential and is underutilized by companies.
« We need to further increase our export chip. Amazon and other e-commerce platforms offer enormous potential for our products, » he said.
He stated that it is time to make an effort and learn to invest in the development of these types of channels and thus take advantage of a market worth millions and millions of dollars.

Opportunities
Meanwhile, the president of Adoexpo, Elizabeth Mena, considered that e-commerce offers opportunities to export.
She said that Amazon has 1.9 million micro, small and medium-sized companies selling products.
She explained that Amazon and other platforms « allow us to open more markets ».
He indicated that they are working with the DGA to have e-commerce statistics available.
The deputy director general of Customs, Johannes Kelner, said that Amazon’s advantage is the logistical connectivity between the country and the United States,

The data offered by the AIRD indicate that Amazon has 256 distribution centers around the world, offers the possibility of connecting with commercial companies, opens opportunities for large and small quantities, and has a presence in Europe, Asia and the United States, being the leader in the American market with access to its 332 million inhabitants.
